Killer Lake (Red Lake)

This famous lake is situated in the middle of Hăşmaşu Mare (Nagyhagymás) at 980 m higher than the sea level and is the “youngest” natural lake more than 700 m long, from North to South. In 1837 on a rainy day the Gyilkos mountain’s northern-west’s area slid in the lake and in this way it was formed a natural gate over four rims so as it was formed the lake. From the lake, even today you can see the fir trees trunks coming out from the water. Near the lake you can admire the huge-rocks of lime-stone which are white and clean. The lake’s surface is of about 12,6 ha and the deepest point is of 10,5 m. It is situated at 32 km from Gyergyó on the 12 C National Road.

Parajd (Praid)

It is a village situated at about 500-525 m above the sea level, a balneo-climaterical resort between Szováta and Székelyudvarhely on  he 13 B National Road, at 63 km from Gyergyószentmiklós and 9 km from Szováta. Very well known and appreciated is the very warm termal water, salted, as well having 49 0C, and the salt mountain which can be seen and it has a special effect on everybody. The mineral springs which can be found here have a high salt concentration, they are warm and they burst out from 2600 m underground. Another turistical attractive and splendid place is the salt mine (160 m underground) here the temperature is of 15 0C, and in it’s mine it is a sanatorium and they have very good results with the asthma treatment.

Szováta

Situated at about 520 m above the sea level it is a well-known resort for more hundred years. On this place even the romans used the salt and they used the mine. The thermal water’s beneficial action have been mentioned for the first time since the sixteenth century in official documents. This resort has five salted lakes. The Bear Lake, the Hazel lake, the Black-lake, the Ruby lake and the Green lake. One or two of them have such a high salt-degree that you can lay on the surface of the water without even moving your arms. The waters have a beneficial action on rheumatism and gynecological affections first of all, but not only. The mud of the Balck and Ruby lakes is good too for different kind of illnesses.

The Church from Şumuleu – Ciuc (Csíksomlyó).

Most important value can be seen on the main altar, a wooden sculpture made of linden-tree, it represents Virgin Mary with Jesus, having a golden crown on her head. It was carved in renaissance style, with gold, painted in the sixteenth century and it is the highest sculpture of a grace-statue in the world (227 cm). The sculpture is surrounded by rays-sheaf. This is the reason why it is named the Lady dressed in sun. The legend says that Virgin Mary’s face turn to pale when there are problems with the seklars. It seems that it happened in 1567, too. It is probable that it was made by a local artist between 1515 and 1520.

The church has two towers, one ship, stare-ceiling, half arch ceiling. The altar was made in 1848 and it was finished in 1876. The organ was built in 1931, with three tonnes, 40 different sounds, 2824 pipes and it is considered to be one of the most important ones, for concerts in the whole country. The vitralis  were made in 1905 in Grotlau - Cehoslovakia. On the window above the main door you can see the first letters of Virgin Mary’s and Jesus’ name, as well as the symbol of the Franciscan  monks. The bell in the tower has a 1133 kg weight.

The Salvator chapel on the top of Kissomlyó, on Somlyó mountain was built at 834 m above the sea level. On Kálvária hill going on the cross way this is what we reach first. This is the oldest and the most important chapel, symbol of the local gothic and baroque style. It was built to celebrate the winning of the battle of Hunyadi János in 1456.

Water storage tank Zetelaka

It is situated at 40 km from Gyergyószentmiklós , 20 km from Székelyudvarhely, rain water basin from Zetelaka is 800 m above the sea level, having 140 ha of water, ideal for fishing, angling, bathing, boating and walking in the marvelous scenery.

The Sugó cave Gyergyótekerőpatak

The cave can be reached from the main road, between Tekerőpatak and Vasláb, going on the woodworking road. It can be reached, by car going 6 km. The Sugó cave is 1 km long prepared to receive visitors, having special equipped channels for this, with four different levels with channels all around and different carstic stalagmites and stalactites being one of the most important caves in the Eastern Carpathians . The cave and its surrounding can be considered a natural reservation area.
